Enchun M. Liu, MD

Dr. Liu is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the retina and vitreous.  Dr. Liu has trained with preeminent leaders in the field and brings a deep knowledge and strong skill set in the management of the most complex retinal cases.  Dr. Liu has been involved in many clinical trials and has published articles and videos on innovative surgical techniques.  His areas of interest include age-related macular degeneration, surgical management of subretinal hemorrhages, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, surgical management of macular holes and epiretinal membranes, retinal vascular disease, and uveitis. Dr. Liu holds an academic appointment as an adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Education and Training

Dr. Liu received his undergraduate degree from the Business Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch, where he graduated cum laude and was elected into the distinguished Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society. Dr. Liu completed his ophthalmology residency training at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he also served as Chief Resident.  He then completed a surgical vitreoretinal fellowship at The Retina Institute in St. Louis, Missouri, one of the premier fellowship programs in the country.

Personal Notes
Dr. Liu enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 sons. He also enjoys running, traveling and exploring the great outdoors. Dr. Liu is fluent in Mandarin.
